There are countless types of dog training collars available in the market. You may be wondering which one to choose for your lovely dog. In this dog training collar review, you will learn to choose a dog training collar for your dog depending on the need. The number and types of dog training collars available in the market are numerous; however, here are some of the best and widely preferred types of collars:
- Choke Chain Collar: A choke chain collar is made up of a sequence of metal links with a large circular ring attached to each end. You put on the collar upon the dog’s neck by pulling the chain through one of the rings. The leash should be clipped onto the correct ring to control the contraction or expansion of the collar. On pulling the leash, the collar contracts and gives you control over the dog. When the leash is released, the tension decreases.

- Martingale Collar: The martingale collar is similar to a choke chain collar but it is much safer and gentle for the dog. The collar is built of flat nylon and a small portion of chain link which is places just below the dog’s neck. On pulling the leash, only the chain portion contracts and allows the handler to control the dog’s behavior. This type of collar is never constrictive to the animal or even cause any harm.

- Nylon or leather collar: The nylon or leather collar is most widely used collar. It is attached to the dog’s neck by using either a belt buckle or a snap-in piece. This collar does not offer the master a lot of control. This collar is often used after the dog is fully trained. You should be careful with this type of collar. If the collar is tied too loose then it may allow the dog to twist and get itself free of it, whereas, if the collar is too tight then the dog may feel constrictive and may also choke.

- Electric Collar: An electric collar is the one which uses electric shock to correct the behavior of the dog. When the dog misbehaves then the handler can shock the animal to correct its behavior. Some electric shock collars provide remote to the handler so that they can control the animal while other collars are automatic.

Electric Collar
- Prong Collar: The prong collar has a large metal prong protruding inwards against the neck of the dogs. It works in a similar way to that of the choke chain collar. On pulling the leash, the prongs dig into the animal’s flesh and pinch it, offering the handler the control over the dog.
