Dog Training leash
While taking your dog outdoors, don’t ever try to pull or tug him. Instead you should teach your puppy how to walk without pulling. This will help both of you to get along with each other and enjoy your time together. So, what’s the technique to teach your puppy to walk on the leash comfortably?
Well, before you start leash training for puppies, make sure that you are working in a fenced area so that he couldn’t escape by getting distracted with something.
- At first, attach a gentle-weight leash to your puppy’s collar.
- Leave the leash and let your puppy drag it around for some minutes.
- Call him and praise with positive words like “good boy”, “good puppy” etc. or you may hug him or pet him-whatever makes it feel better to both of you.
- Let him walk with the leash for few minutes but never leave him on leash like this when you are not with him.
- Repeat this for several times and soon you will notice your puppy being getting comfortable with the leash.
- Once your puppy feels comfortable, you can start puppy training with leash by attaching a leash that won’t slip off.
- Make him sit on your left side facing in the front direction.
- Say “Let’s walk” and take the first step with your left foot. This will signal your puppy that you are going to walk.
- Walk in your normal pace and talk to your puppy often. Just make your walk fun and enjoyable.
- Stop after walking for a short distance and now, praise her with few good words and start walking again in the same way.
- Repeat this for 3-4 times each day and soon he will learn this skill in a better way.
Important tip: It’s always better to teach new things in a lonely or in a quiet place where your dog can fully focus on you. If he’s not paying any attention or concentrating on you, try getting him to focus by attracting him with his favorite treat. Not only for leash training to dogs, helps in almost every types of dog training methods.
